How do they work?

Pressure assisted toilets don’t look much different from regular gravity assisted ones at first sight. They both have a bowl, a toilet seat, and a tank. First differences can be spotted when you lift a seat. If you were expecting a bowl filled with water, you were wrong. The first thing you see when you lift a toilet seat is a small plastic seal, similar to those find in portable toilets.

Pressure assisted toilets use a combination of water and high pressure air for flushing action. It all starts with water coming into the bowl. While the bowl is filling up, air is getting compressed in the cylinder (usually made of metal). Once the process is completed, the air is released. This combination provides much more force than traditional units.

Advantages of pressure assisted toilets:

  • Superior efficiency. Because combination of water and pressurized air provides much more force, more waste can be flushed through the pipes at the same time.
  • Superior hygiene. Superior efficiency means superior flushing. Pressure assist toilets are able to force the waste through the pipes much more effectively, so they leave cleaner bowl and pipes behind them.
  • Less water needed. Because pressure assisted toilets require less water for efficient flushing, they can reduce your water bills at the end of each month.
  • Affordable price. Pressure assisted toilets used to be much more expensive than nowadays, but they are getting cheaper and cheaper. Of course they are still more expensive than regular toilets, but not by much.

Reviews of the top 5 pressure assisted toilets:

Here are a couple of brief reviews of the best pressure assisted toilets on the market. We have ranked them based on their price, features, and numerous customer reviews from several online sources. All of them should be great buys, but most of it comes down to personal preference and budget.

American Standard 2467.016.020

American Standard 2467.016.020 Cadet Right Height Elongated Pressure Assisted Two Piece ToiletIt’s not a secret that the American Standard is one of our favorite brands when it comes to toilets and other plumbing fixtures. We have already reviewed several of their products and it’s not a surprised that a few of them managed to get into this list of recommendations.

This particular model is a two-piece toilet with elongated bowl and pressure assisted siphon jet action. It’s not the most advanced products on this list, but it definitely offers the best possible value for the money.

  • Dimensions: 30.75″ x 30.25″ x 20.5″.
  • Water consumption: 1.6 gallons per flush (WaterSense certified).
  • Warranty: 1-year limited.

Kohler K-3493-0 Highline Classic

Kohler K-3493-0 Highline Classic Pressure toiletIt’s a luxury to find a toilet that isn’t only available in a classic design. If your bathroom doesn’t have a traditional design, you will apreciate the fact that the Kohler K-3493-0 is available in 4 different designs – white, black, biscuit, and almond.

Pressure assisted toilets are known for their water saving features. This one only uses 1.4 gallons of water per flush, so an average family can use up to 2000 gallons of water per year. Unfortunately the seat is not included in the package, so you need to purchase it separately.

  • Dimensions: 30.125″ x 21.25″ x 31.25″.
  • Water consumption: 1.4 gallons per flush.

American Standard Yorkville Pressure-Assisted Elongated ToiletThe Yorkville is another American Standard toilet with pressure-assisted siphon jet action on our list of recommendations. It features an EverClean surface that is resistant to bacteria, mold, and mildew.

It’s a little bit more expensive than products ranked above it, and that’s the only reason why we haven’t ranked it higher. If money is not an object, we still think that it’s one of the best buys on the market right now. The seat is not included in the package, so you have to buy it as an addition.

  • Dimensions: 29.8″ x 20.5″ x 29.2″.
